Chapter 13: Journey 02

Father Austin used everything he had and forced sales on people, and after a while, it became known that ‘an old man and young girl have very good potions’.

Thanks to that, we had repeating customers and business was booming. I was surprised that there were customers who were waiting for us at our travel destinations.

Father knew that I wanted to be known as a healer, so he told the customers extra information, ‘this potion was made by Anise,’ and thanks to that, I receive commissions at my travel destinations too.

We got money thanks to that, but troublesome things also happened.

There were people who said, “I’ll pay you, so only sell it to me. I’m going to resell it,” or “Why don’t you come work for me? We’ll make money together.” Those people had a very strong… how do I put this… hint of the underworld.

If I had been alone, then I might have been kidnapped or blackmailed if I had handled the situation badly.

When those situations popped up, Father Austin, an old man but former soldier, would glare at them or directly punish them, and we managed to get out of those situations; then that happened.

Father Austin is a reliable man. When I first met him, his body was falling apart, and he really was a genuinely weak old man.

“Oh my, it’s fun to go wild for the first time in a long time. My leg is back now, and my body feels light. Besides, you’ll be able to heal me even if I overdid it a little, can’t you? I should rampage a little more next time. Hohoho,” he laughed cheerfully.

To think he could bare-handedly and nimbly parry those ruffian’s attacks while also aiming for their vitals, those movements could be said to be nothing but masterful.

I wonder just how much actual battle experience he has.

Truly, where has the quiet and serious priest from the village gone? It’s hard to believe that this is the same person who was walking carefully with an artificial leg. Now that I think about it, isn’t a scam for the villagers to treat him kindly because of his helpless appearance?

When we finally arrived at our destination ‘Garland Clinic’, Father Austin stopped looking like just an old priest to just a muscle head soldier with no gap to take advantage of.

In the end, it was thanks to Father Austin that I learnt how to make the tools for my trade, save money, eat hot food, and sleep in a nice bed. Somehow, the trip was much more affordable and comfortable than I had expected.

I’m so glad I didn’t refuse him when he asked to travel with me.

“Welcome to Garland Clinic. I’m Sultana Garland, the director of Garland Clinic. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard about you, Miss Popular Healer. It’s been a long time, Austin-dono,” the man who greeted us in the director’s room, which was a simple room with nothing but books inside, was a tired looking man in his 40s. His room and clothes looked very simple and worn. There were also several piles of papers in the room.

The director of such a large clinic, or rather hospital, looks like this, so does that mean that a director of a clinic is very busy?

What do you call this kind of thing? ‘Doctors neglecting their own health’?

And do you call priests by their names?

“It’s been a while, Sultana-dono. You seem to be in good health… or not, but I’m glad you’re still alive. I’ll give you the rumoured ‘Anise Potion’ later. She is Anise, the person who makes the potion. She wants to work here. Would you be okay with that? She’s a good worker.”

Apparently, they knew each other. So, the director was the person who the priest knew?

“Of course. She’s welcomed here. Although there’s a truce, there are still skirmishes near the border, and the sick aren’t the only ones who visit this clinic, many injured people come here too. We’ve been busy thanks to that. We’re grateful for any help we can get,” the director said happily.

I knew that I would probably be accepted, but I was still relieved to get the approval of the person in charge.

After all, I’m like a wanderer without any relatives or social position. I was looking for a job without any resume, and only a reference.

Come to think of it, it’s the first time I’ve been ‘welcomed’ in this world, so I’m very happy.

The director seems like a nice guy.

I’m going to do my best. Let’s work hard and heal a lot of people, and then I will achieve my goal.

The first step is to heal this director.
